They deliver!!!! Great meal delivered fast and friendly! We ordered the Liver and Onions as well as the Meatloaf with mashed spuds on the side. Very tasty! The meatloaf reminded me of my Memere's! Thank you Babalu!!!

Good, reliable food and service. The big guy burgers, 5 oz burgers, chicken sandwiches, fish sandwiches and fries are awesome. I have plenty of menu items to work through! Delivery is free, which makes this an easy choice when I don't feel like going out or cooking. I also love that they normally have online ordering and can't wait till they bring that back :-) Chip-I've been in St. Pete and a Babalu's customer for 2 1/2 years!

I've enjoyed Babalu off-and-on since the early 1990's. Yes, it is a genuine DIVE. To me a dive is best defined as: family-owned, a bit low-brow in appearance, a bit removed from the "popular" radar, but consistently puts out affordable and amazing food. If you are just expecting your average "bar" food, you will be pleasantly surprised. The menu is extensive, but I've never been served anything here that was substandard. Frankly, I don't get excited much about chicken wings. Whoa! Their garlic chicken wings are really unique and excellent. All of their many different burgers are great as well! Plus, the nice surprise is Babalu offers several other dishes that fall far outside of the typical "bar" food category. In the mood for some real comfort food? Try the meatloaf. You will not be disappointed... I'm a bit of a seafood snob and can be quite picky. No mystery fish here! Babalu does seafood tasty, affordable, and RIGHT! They clearly let the diner know what specific fish they are ordering: mahi, red snapper, tilapia, etc... Other restaurants offer fried and other "mystery" fish dishes leaving the diner to just guess or have to ask exactly what type of fish they will be eating.....and always at a much higher price! Babalu also offers a lot of great daily specials, giving the diner even more choices than just the main menu. Fair warning: This place can get really busy during peak hours, with a small and packed parking lot. You will likely have to park down the side street, but their food is well worth it. Babalu is a great North St. Pete secret and has been pumping out excellent, affordable, and consistent food for decades!

I didn't like this place at all. It seemed dirty. We were in a booth in the corner and the server kept forgetting we were sitting there. They never brought my friends salad out. Food was mediocre at best. She had a burger and I had a sandwich,

The first word that comes to mind when I think of my eating experience at Babalu's is "Spitfire." I have to say that Chrisan immediately made me feel at home and put a huge smile on my face. She treated me like she'd known me her whole life and has a true spitfire personality. The comfort food on the menu immediately reminded me of diners in Texas and helped take the edge off of my homesickness. I ordered the Country Fried Steak. The only part of the dining experience that was lacking was not all of the food elements came out at the same time. Call me a purist, but I love to soak up my egg yolk with my toast and I was half way through my eggs before my toast came out. My dining companion partook in the Bloody Mary Bar (read: a ledge with mix and garnish including pickles and celery), while I had a cold draft beer as my hangover remedy. The beer was the perfect mix of cheap and frosty. The Bloody Mary was stiffer than my back after I pass out on a floor from one too many shots. We skipped the dining area and headed directly to the bar in the back. The interior is covered with old school double-intendre signs. It's very comforting to find a place that doesn't take itself too seriously and doesn't mind giving customers who are there to drink a nice chuckle. Synopsis: there was banter, booze, food, and a great time was had by all. I'm new to the Tampa Bay area and I can definitely see myself taking a trip over the bridge to become a weekend regular at this divey diner.

So it's nothing too exciting to look at, inside or out but their food is good. I've been here quite a few times for breakfast and the Bloody Mary bar. I'm a sucker for a good Bloody Mary, and they have a great Bloody Mary bar. They have all the fixings which helps make a bloody go from good to great. Now don't miss understand, they don't have over the top stuff like mini burgers and chicken fingers coming put of the Bloody Marys or even bacon but the do have an assortment of olives and various pickled veggies and spices to add. Delish! On my last stop for brunch, I had the eggs Benedict and my friend had the chicken and waffles. My eggs Benedict was good, I would definitely order it again. My only complaint was that the potatoes were over cooked which made them a little dry. That was the same issue with the chicken and waffles, great flavor but it was over cooked which made the chicken a little tough. We asked for extra maple syrup gravy and that fixed the problem and it was really tasty. My breakfast has always been good, this is the first time I has items that were over cooked. I'll be back, great service, the food is usually pretty good and the Bloody Marys are tasty. :-)

Not a fan... We started with an appetizer of wings, ya they were good but nothing special. Our waitress was really all over the place, didn't really pay attention to us, and didn't remember basically anything we said. I ordered a hamburger and Brandon has the buffalo chicken sandwich... Which was recommended by our server..... Hamburger was not the greatest, and the chicken sandwich.. Well Wendy's has better buffalo chicken sandwiches in our opinion. We heard a ton of great things about this restaurant but honestly didn't have a very good experience, I can't say this place ranks high on my list of places to return to.

YES -- I am an avid fan of Babalu. We typically sit at the bar and the service there is friendly and fun. I really enjoy their brunch and their belinis ($4). There is always a crowd of regulars that are fun to chat with and happy to be there. Regarding the food, Babalu's makes a wonderful egg-white omelet, consistently great pork chops, excellent mashed potatoes, and solid wings. I do not like any of their desserts. They have a lot of misses on the their menu (like their side salad and broccoli bites), but the neighborhood/local charm and warmth make me return over and over. It's definitely a "diney diner," so don't expect too much and just have fun. They also deliver, which is a wonderful resource when you've come in off the boat and want food without the hassle of leaving the house.

Great atmosphere and great food. Unfortunately the kitchen suffered a fire a few days ago and they are amidst some repairs. I must say that the overall experience and food was still great. I will definitely be back!

Been in here a few times since my last review so thought I'd update. Service is slow at the tables, terribly slow, but good at the bar. Be aware if you sit at the bar you will HAVE to speak to other patrons, it's just that kind of place, they do not leave you alone. Just a note Breakfast? Oh, avoid it. Mimosa in a water glass served on ice. Who does that? Oh I suppose if you're having bloody marys and toast it would be just fine. Dinner time is better. Wings are good. Fried chicken , not so much. Grilled chicken, avoid if unless you like grill scrapings and a weird gas taste on your food. Their fries and mashed potatoes however, rock. Their gravy, although doubtfully homemade, is darn good. Fish dip, broccoli bites, all good. Stella is $4.25 on draught. Fireball is $4.95. Sit at the bar, enjoy some snacks, drink enough to enjoy the colorful conversation, don't come here for a family dinner. Well, unless you're that type of family!

A friend recommended this restaurant for the Babalu sauce on the wings. I saw that they do have an extensive menu, but all we got was a lot of wings! They were phenomenal. The Babalu sauce is a mix of garlic butter, buffalo, and Bleu cheese. They're a bit spicy but not too much and so delicious. The chicken was moist and good quality. Customer service was great too. I will definitely be returning as often as I can!

Due to the fact that part of the prep area was in the dining area, i witnessed some of the most unsanitary food prep practices I have ever seen. The prep person was eating, drinking, scratching his face, wiping his hair back, playing on his phone. And apparently he thought rhat prep gloves are magic, because he never changed it.

Had take out here a few times. Food was edible and well-priced... That is until we dined in. Restaurant was dirty and so was the staff! They had no type of uniform.... Which was fitting because they couldn't even be classified as servers. Our server was not attentive and had no knowledge of the menu. The only reason I give it 2 stars is because the prices are so cheap. Go spend a few extra bucks and grab a decent meal somewhere else.

I'm very happy we finally decided to give Babalu a try... Now I'm in love with this nice, warm place! Just my kind of place, unpretencious, with lots of excellent food, just like home cooked. Friendly, fast service, love the homey atmosphere. We'll be back next weekend!

Ignore the "best burger" sign on the door since its just a ploy! This place is grungy but the service was awesome. Everything seemed kind of "okay" and no one was impressed. Cheeseburger (and all burgers at the table) were subpar and didn't seem freshly prepared or cooked. It's also PACKED during lunch time and the parking lot is so small we had to park two blocks down a residential street. I bet you're wondering why I'm giving it 3 stars, and that's because I appreciate that this non-corporate place is able to stay afloat and provide a decent lunch for folks working in the nearby businesses. My recommendation to the staff: Shorten the menu! There's no reason for it to be so large and everyone in our party would've rather had a limited selection of great foods instead of a huge selection of sub-par foods. Fries weren't crispy, even during the rush. But, our server was super sweet and fast!

  • Shamus L.

I'm a fan. The St. Peters"burger " is delicious! I've been coming here since I was a child and I'm 33. They've been around forever on a difficult street to compete with the corporation restaurants and a fast food chain on every other block. Salute to babalu's!

Love the bar area in the back. Friendly bartenders and friendly patrons always make it a good time. Oh, and the menu is sprawling. If you can't find something on there you want, you must not be hungry.

  • Deborah W.

The place is a total dive. It looks nice from the outside, but the inside is overcrowded with random junk all over the place. The color scheme on the inside makes no sense. The customer service sucks. The staff is not very professional. The food for the most part is good, but not consistent. I mainly go for the crab leg feast. Sometimes it's good. Sometimes it's horrible. Sometimes it's overcooked. Not consistent. One time the chili was amazing, but the next time I ordered it, I couldn't even eat it because it was so horrible.

1lbs steamed gulf shrimp is the only thing I order there because they taste great. My wife likes the meatloaf and we both like happy hour. Sports on all the tv's and lots of families enjoying dinner. I have ate there at least 5 times and it was a great visit every time.

I just tried their house wings here and they are some of the best I've had! Garlic, buffalo sauce AND blue cheese!? I think I just bit into a piece of heaven. Good quality chicken with medium spiciness and rich, creamy flavor.

  • Hillary V.

The building & staff... This place is a little bit jank, but in a cute way. I suppose it could be called a dive. Maybe they were just busy, but I was very annoyed about my service. We were constantly reminding our waitress to get us things we'd asked for a million times. The amount of time it took for me to get my toast that was supposed to come WITH my meal was ridiculous. The food... I had an egg white omelette with sausage and Swiss cheese. It came with a slice of watermelon, which is super exciting. I cannot remember ever having received watermelon as the "fresh fruit" listed on the menu. The rye toast is phenomenal. I was stuffed to the brim and very happy about it. Overall, I loved the food, but the service has me keeping the rating at 3.

  • Yana W.

As "mom's and pop's" as it gets. Came in for breakfast on a weekend. It was totally full! Despite of being busy, out server was very friendly and efficient. I was in the mood for something sweet and ordered stuffed French toast. I was not disappointed with my choice. Three large toasts were stacked and then filled with (what tasted like) cream cheese and almond shavings in between. I had a cup of cooked berries to top it with. I didn't use the butter or syrup that was also on my plate. The "fruit" was a slice of melon. I loved my French toast! It was huge and that's the reason I didn't finish it. Just couldn't... :-)

The place is a mom and pop diner and the food is made with love. Their seafood is fresh and the portion sizes are large. The fried fish sandwich is amazing. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Getting to this spot was a 40 minute drive for me and I plan to return again and again.

We had been here frequently last year for breakfast - not bad - average fare with eggs, bacon and poorly flavored Has Browns. The you waiter who is slightly muscular was not attentive at all. We had to wait a few times for coffee refills. Requested a new set of silver ware, waited for that too. We went back twice this year, awful services. Service sucks.; will not go back. We are just over on MLK and 4 th St N is one street over. Once, we ordered the Pot Roast - yuck - no flavor at all - so bland. I sent it back and they took it off my bill. Place is cluttered with many items on the wall. It needs a makeover - complete new paint job and take all that junk from the walls and bar area. The booths near the window are uncomfortable and tables/chairs in the middle are too close together. We had a big lady seated in back of us, and her chair was touching our, I thought I was at SeaWorld. We have not been back and don't plan to return anytime soon. I am not sure who the cooks are, but its just poor tasting food. Burgers are premade / frozen. Staff could be more friendly, attentive and more knowledgeable regarding the menu choices.

  • Alissa W.

I'm ok with this place. Service can be inconsistant but food is pretty much the same everytime. The Talapia sami is delish and is decent quantity.. Their clam strips are fresh not frozen that I can tell and appear homemade. The clam chowder is pretty yummy- get no inkling it came from a can. Happy hour is short but drinks are poured strong. Their bar feels like a clean man cave but they don't have internet service for their patrons or I would be there more frequently. Not so bad for a local joint.

Wow, if they have the grouper on the menu, order it. Best blackened grouper sandwich I've had in St. Pete, and this includes some of the more popular places on the beach. The reviews are right - this is a dive spot in a random location on 4th Street. I find it to be better for lunch or a casual dinner as there isn't much atmosphere or ambiance... as I said, it's a dive. Don't expect anything else! The servers are friendly, and seem to have stepped into Babalu from some of the spots featured on the popular TV show, "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives."

    (4)
  • Joshua W.

Babalu's acts like they have better prices, but they really don't.. just waited 20 minutes to go wings" because the Fryers were down".. nobody offered to buy me a beer for my time.. not as local and laid back as they advertise.. $5 for a sliver of key lime pie not even homemade! I've gone there many times trying to give them a chance.. it's low-brow atmosphere for upscale prices.. I'm done with that place!

  • Ali C.

Babalu's is a neighborhood "dive" that is an old stand by and been around a long time. Their menu is extensive and reasonably priced. They always have some good specials and are open for breakfast on the weekends. I like their fish spread. I was not to impressed with their wings, but others swear by them. My daughter likes the pot roast. Some of the specials and items are only available once a week and until their gone which can be early. They offer delivery if you are too lazy to go out. Onsite they have a full bar. It is a decent sized place and a group of people could easily push tables together and sit as a group. Service is hit or miss, but they are friendly.

Best wings in Tampa Bay. Need I say more? Ok then, the Angus burger is the best burger I've had, period. The Cajun fries rock. The have brown gravy for my fries and gravy (Canadian thing). The Better Than Sex cake is exactly what it claims to be... Ok maybe not but I'm a guy. Ladies, tell me what you think if the cake...

Went here for the first time on Saturday afternoon. Sat at the bar and enjoyed the lively company of the other bar patrons. Food, laughs, drinks, and smiles all around. Plus, the food was tasty and reasonably priced. Their website says "Great food and good times" and they didn't lie. Wow!! :0) The only down side was during shift change of the bartenders. Don't remember her name but a funny nice blond lady had been working and she was being replaced by a dark haired seemingly miserable person. I make that statement because she had a wrinkly scowl plastered on her face from the moment she stepped into the bar area. She comes to the bar area and says we need to be quiet (with her fingers to her lips in the shush tone). REALLY?!?! We're at the BAR not the LIBRARY! No profanity was being spoken and nothing inappropriate was said. REALLY?! Suggestion - Turn the frown upside down (if you can) and lose the funky azz 'tude or better yet, stay home. Aside from the disgruntled bartender I enjoyed this place. :0)

Babalu was a massive disappointment. I've been to a lot of restaurants in St. Pete, and so far, this was the worst. Food was not good. It was the kind of food that someone with no culinary skill may throw together at home. It was not restaurant quality, and there was nothing unique or tasty about it. In addition, my food was greatly undercooked. Babalu also felt kind of dirty to me. On a positive note, our server was solid. However, I definitely will not return.

  • Annette R.

We've been here several times over the years. The servers are friendly and chatty. The menu isn't as large as they say in the commercial. In fact, there are less items now than when we saw it 2 yrs ago. None the less, there is plenty to choose from. Service is fast. Decor is typical bar decor. The tables are crammed together and they all wobble. It's rather filthy in the prep area. You can see that area as it is open. My husband said we won't be going back for this reason. If he hadn't seen how dirty it was, it probably wouldn't have mattered. The food is ok. Hubby got the meatloaf. He said it tasted like TV dinner meal that was cooked and transferred to a plate. I got the French dip which was okay. I've had better. But it was filling. Dinner prices around $10.00. Definitely affordable. But We won't be going back.

Extremely modest but great find! Serving up St Pete mom and pop realness, this low budget eatery doesn't skimp on the ingredients or decadence at all! A diverse menu of fresh seafood, steaks, salads and sandwiches made "The Babalu" a great place to dine. For lunch, I ordered the chef salad with additional blackened chicken breast which was seasoned perfectly and was served tender and moist. Co-workers had their famous wings and fresh grouper sandwich. Tip: go right before noon (11:40am) for lunch to get a good seat as the tables fill up very quickly for the lunch rush. Food was on time and service was prompt, just the way I like it!

I have gone to Babalu about 5 or 6 times. I like going to non-chain places and this is a long-time local joint. I went with my son yesterday, Sunday, after Church. We walked in almost exactly at noon, sat at a table (as instructed by signs) and waited almost 15 minutes before being noticed (even though several servers walked right past us). A waitress then asked us if anyone had checked with us, and when we said "no," she took our drink orders and got us menus. The decor is what some people would call "kitschy," with signs on the walls with "funny" sayings. Other people call it a dive. The building has obviously been added on to a few times. It was another 7 or 8 minutes, and I was about to walk out, when a gentleman finally came up to us to take an order. An important note: on Sundays, they serve only from the Brunch menu until 1:00 p.m. This menu has breakfast items and a limited number of sandwiches. Most of the large menu is not available, or I would have ordered something else. My son asked for lettuce and pickle with his cheeseburger and fries (he actually wanted something other than the fries, but other items were not available). I got an omelet with mushrooms, sausage and cheese. My Omelet was OK, not overly greasy like some I have had, but seemed a little smaller than I expected for a 3-egg omelet. The "Home Fries" were probably frozen. My son did not get his Lettuce and pickles -- we had to ask, and then the waiter came with Tomato and pickle, so we had to ask again for lettuce. I'm not sure what lettuce they used, but it was really bitter. Other times I have been to Babalu, I got better service. The food is OK, and it has a really large menu. I haven't had anything bad (other than the service this time), so I'll probably go again to try out a few other things (since this place is near my office), but so far, there are other places in the area I like better.

This is a local neighborhood favorite of ours. The wings truly are the best around and they have many varieties for all tastes. The cheesesteaks are very good; although, lately the roll to the cheesesteaks as been tasteless and dry. I have had their tilapia dinner and recommend that too, as well as their breakfasts. Servers and patrons are friendly and attentive. The big drawback here is the inside. It is beyond the desperately needs a new floor and paint job stage. It is so bad, it takesaway from the dining experience. Unfortunate, because the food is so good, but again the condition of the place makes you think it has not been properly sanitized in years. I would give 4-5 stars once they re-do the inside

  • J S.

This used to be my favorite local dive. The service has been on the decline. Once I got a grouper sandwich that was so oversalty I couldn't eat it. Usually the grouper is perfect. Burgers are always good here. Wings are awesome, but make sure you put your order in then wait if you want them as an appetizer. Food is cheap. Still like it, but not on my regular list.

We used to love this place for their generous, homestyle menu. The food was plenty and it was comforting. They even delivered it. This was the third visit since some kind of major change. The first was a shock, but I wrote it off as an off day. The fish on my sandwich tasted microwaved, and the service was among the worst I've seen. The second brought incomplete and incorrect orders, and the service was just as bad. After a few months, we decided to try it again... There were 6 of us for lunch and we all ordered from the list of daily specials...burgers and sandwiches. I can't see the kitchen, but it seems like there are two unsupervised teenagers back there working their first days in a kitchen. The service remained as bad as resent visits. It took over 20 minutes to get paid out, and almost had to walk out on the bill since our server was walking around talking to her favorite customers with our checks in hers hand. I understand being busy and taking orders, but she was just socializing. That was my last trip to Babalu's. It' sad to see a great local business fall apart like that, but I won't encourage their poor performance by continue eating there. It's a shame since it's right around the corner from the job. If you have plenty of time and no culinary experience, then this place will suit you just fine. If you are reading here for a review, the pictures on Yelp are very misleading.

Nice! Fresh and good food, and super fair prices, specially the hamburgers. You really get what you pay for: more $ for huge hamburgers. Also, nice outside area for having a nice time.

One of the best things about this place is the free delivery, although you have to wait until after 5pm. Also some of the best fried chicken anywhere! Some of the other dishes do leave something to be desired. The burgers are average, the chili on the nachos is terrible, but the sides are all pretty good. Prices are fair, average American cuisine.

The place is definitely a hole in the wall, but cute and kitschy at the same time. We went for brunch on a Sunday-- (FYI, they maintain that they can't serve alcohol until 11, per FL law. I think they're wrong about this, but whatever). I had the Bacon, egg and cheese croissant and my husband had the Redneck breakfast. Both were very tasty! Bottom line: cute, inexpensive place that has the chain restaurants beat by a longshot. If you're looking for hot, tasty food and a fun atmosphere this place is for you.

Michelle I agree definitly a dive .. our friends really seem to like this place and we have gone a few times. Most of the time the staff is great. Our last experience the woman beside our table ordered a fish sandwich OMG it smelled I was just about to move when she decided it may be rancid. This was a customer of 25 years. I ordered a BLT - that to me is a safe bet - except although it was toasted it felt like they just took it out of the fridge. I guess when you have had a few too many and need something a great stop over but I was not very impressed. Three times we tried.

The Babalu offers a dive atmosphere at expensive Bistro prices. It's certainly a dive. No two tables are alike, no set of chairs match. They have a lot of TVs but they use them to sell advertising of other businesses in the area. As a matter of fact the table I sat at had ads all over it - lame. A meal for two was $40. No drinks, just the two entrees. 97.5% of the menu is fried. I got the Blackened "grouper" and was very disappointed in it. It was clearly frozen and had the same consistency of chicken. The onion rings were great, but that was all that was a hit on my platter. The salad was lame and I could make a better one with a bag of lettuce from Publix. Think see through iceberg meets light pink tomatoes. The wait staff here was attentive and entertaining too. They saved this from being a one star rating. I couldn't get over how expensive this place was compare to other area restaurants. Pete & Shortys, 3 Birds, and Ciccios use MUCH fresher and higher quality ingredients at better prices. Also, be sure to leave your white collar at home. I certainly didn't feel too comfortable wearing my work attire in here. Think Alstott Bucks jersey + cutoff jean shorts. There are so many great places to eat in St Pete, this should be way down your list of places to try.

So my coworkers had been raving about this place for sometime before my own teammates wanted to try something new and affordable on our Friday out to lunch. We got that and more at Babalu. You walk into a definite local spot - a mix of clientele from white collar to blue collar and those that used to be both. Grab a booth or a table and try to ignore the big screen on Sports Center to crawl over the huge menu. And the Daily Specials Menu (which has every day specials and that particular day). For appetizers I recommend some of the best wings in town. Buffalo sauce with blue cheese mixed in and lightly fried. These babies are full of flavor and a great deal by themselves. For meals I've had burgers, fried chicken platters and other daily specials. Their lunch specials are another great deal considering they are all less than $8 and come with fries. And you can get your fries any way - cajun, garlic parmeian and at least one other. The service might miss some stuff here and there, but will always go back for anything you need and are always very friendly. We love going back for the great deals, low key atmosphere and fantastic food.

There is no place that my family would go to get wings but The Babalu! We have been going there for years! They have redone the inside and it is really nice. They have a nice patio if you want to eat outside. We love the wings and the ranch!

I discovered Babalu while having a horrible experience at the Village Inn across the street. The sign said best burgers in town so we decided to check it out. The sign was correct, tons of yummy burger options to choose from (chicken sandwich versions as well for the non-red meat eater). I think my favorite so far is the Nacho Burger. noms. Their cajun or garlic parmesan fries are also a must. I tried a chocolate shake last week. It's cheap and good, but not amazing. Everyone I seem to take here ends up loving it, so I'd say give it a shot. Might become a new 4th St. favorite.

The skinny: dive restaurant, huge menu, spotty service (but really friendly/helpful), a local spot that serves fun dishes, not healthy at all. All that being said, my roommates and I go here quite often. Despite the above, it's what we want: simple, no rush, casual atmosphere, with good consistent food. I've found some real gems on the menu. Also, their breakfast consists of huge plates for around $5 on Saturday and Sunday. What keeps me coming back? The house wings: garlic sauce mixed with blue cheese chunks, fried up and served. Sometimes, you don't get a bone plate...but who cares? It doesn't stop me from devouring these artery cloggers. mmmm..just under $7 for 10 large wings. What I usually get as a meal varies between burgers and sandwiches. Lately, I've been gravitating towards the meatloaf sandwich...hefty pieces of meatloaf served with choice of cheese (cheddar for me) on texas toast. Then, I get the gravy on the side for dipping it in. It's only like $6.25! Highly recommended: The St. Petersburger & The Godfather hamburgers Honorable mentions/other things I've had worth telling about: chicken fingers, cuban sandwich, turkey club Skip: Oyster hero/po boy...was okay, just expensive for what it was Lastly, they do have some seating outdoors, with a lovely view of the parking lot and 4th street ;) but they also do allow you to bring your dogs and will bring them a bowl of water. The staff is very cool about this. I don't own a dog, but it was nice to see when my friend brought hers.

There's nothing fancy here, but the food is tasty and often exceeds expectations and the staff are friendly. The menu is quiet varied with a few bigger ticket items than you'd expect to find at a typical diner. On our most recent trip, I got a patty melt and it was probably one of the best I've ever had. The marbled rye was nicely toasted without being greasy. The sauteed onions were SO SWEET, it was amazing. My wife got a combo of ribs and shrimp. The steamed shrimp was huge and flavorful. They were cooked great . The cocktail sauce wasn't as strong as I like, but still seemed to be made in-house and was tasty. The prices are pretty affordable and I'm happy with the place.

If I wanted great burgers, wings, and fries.. I should have just gone to Beef O Bradys.. or even Chilli's would have made me happier then I was at Babalu's. The service wasn't great and the food was mediocre. I didn't like the wing's, mostly because I saw a little bit of feathers and the mild sauce was not the best. My swiss burger was bland and dry, and the bun was gross. I will not go here again. The only thing I did like was the sweet tea. There were flies bothering me and my boyfriend also. The floor was disgusting. It was like they used to have wood or tile, but they ripped it out and just left what's underneath. The decor in the place was meh as well, not the best tables or chairs, but acceptable. The waitress wasn't very pleasant. She didn't refill our drinks until the food came out 15 minutes later, and then when we requested refills again she gave us a refill and left the pitcher on our table. To me, she was basically saying "here.. serve yourself, i don't give a shit about you." I'm usually easy to please really, but I was not happy here at all.

I sat and drank $15 in beer and then ordered 50 wings extra extra crispy sauce on the side to go. the tab was $45. i paid $60 and said thnx and walked out. to my surprise when i got home the top 10-15 wings were extra extra crispy, the bottom remaining wings were RAW! RAW! RAAAAAAWWWW! really!? they were all pearl white and some had blue patches on them. when i returned the wings, they took them and said we will refund the 3 twenties you gave and just ring up the beer and you can pay that. MAYBE? but this was the straw/camel thing. 3 strikes. i explained to the manager that i do this for 50-100 wings per month and this was the 3rd strike in less than 6 months. no attempt was made to satisfy me. just a,"oh well," i am done with this place. the management is non existent as far as customer service goes.

My husband and I use to own a condo down the road from Babalu, but never stopped in because the restaurant seemed like the most random hole in the wall. We finally decided to try breakfast after driving by the restaurant for three years. The restaurant is indeed a dive, but surprisingly offers a HUGE menu selection! The breakfast platters were huge portions at a very cheap cost. A little greasy for my preference, but quite tasty. This is a great alternative to franchises such as Village Inn or Denny's if you are looking for a greasy diner. The food seems hit or miss so I would stick with the basics and stay clear of anything fancy on the menu. Babalu also offers a lunch and dinner menu.

I have had the pleasure of dining with The Babalu five times now. Once in the restaurant, and the other four times I have ordered takeaway because, frankly, they have the best food for the buck at this end of 4th Street. Today we ordered Big Guy burgers - 3 different burgers, one with a double order of fries. With the exception of receiving an extra side of sauteed mushrooms instead of the requested sauteed onions, the burgers were excellent and the steak fries were cooked to perfection. My rare burger was a lovely pink inside. In the past, we've ordered their wings and my favorite, the fried clams, which are huge and tasty. Their menu is huge, though, and they often have specials like pot roast and just good old American food. Delivery takes awhile, and since we're a mere 4 blocks from the restaurant we prefer to pick up our food (the fries and clams arrive home faster and crispier), but it's still worth it if you don't feel like going out. Perhaps the best part is, if you follow them on Facebook, they will post their lunch specials. One of these Sundays I want to head over for their brunches. I hear the Bloody Mary's are delish.

I'm not sure if they claim to have "the best burger in town" but they should. If you want a no-frills basic cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, pickle cooked to perfection, then look no further. The price is great as well. Our office orders from here at least once a week. They got rid of my favorite (navy bean and ham) soup, but it is still a great deal and the food is good. The fries are the thick steak ones, which is a bonus!

The staff of the Babalu are experts at combining homemade with foodservice; the very first batch of fries today were crispy outside and soft inside, with garlic and shredded parmesan on top. The desserts are baked by a local baker and are reasonably priced (around $4), and my veggie chef salad was so huge that I could barely finish it.

First time here. Great breakfast and super awesome Bloody Mary bar. Enjoyed the stuffed french toast. Good service (thank you Nastassja). Will be back. Looks like Sunday's get pretty busy here. Very reasonable pricing and lots of food.

Dinner tonight from Babalu! I might as well have this place on speed dial as I call for take-out at least twice a week. Big menu, great food, wonderful service. This place has definitely become a family staple!

We went here after hearing great things about it and always seeing it packed---I don't know if we just went on a "bad" day, but my food was absolutely terrible. I couldn't even eat it. It tasted like it had been made wayyyy before and then microwaved. My boyfriend's got the chicken fingers--was ok, but he wasn't crazy about it either. They have a huge menu. Nice place to hang out I guess, but just stick to drinking. We won't be back.

Love Babalu. Great wings, chicken tenders, fries, onion rings, and burgers. Wish they'd add garlic parmesan as a wing choice.

I hate to dun you Babalu, but the last time we darkened your door, the whole freakin' restaurant smelled like a well-used urinal cake. Your crappers are disgusting enough without having the whole joint reek. I'm done with you for awhile. ***Flush***

I've wanted to go here for years and just now got around to it. And it was a big disappointment. We got there at ten thirty am, and they went serving breakfast. So, we ordered lunch, nbd. I got the bleu cheese burger, and added bacon. They forgot the bacon. Not terrible to my mouth, but my stomach did not agree. Sub par meat is my best guess. My wife ordered a reuben, and she said it was the worst she's ever had. (and I'm the picky one) Now we are both home with stomach aches, on or day off. Thanks Babalu. Ps- smells not good in there...

Average at best... just a typical dive diner type place. Burgers are far from the best in town as their sign outside states. (Ragin Grill down the street is better.) Cheap lunch specials are the big draw. Fills up during lunch hour fast.

Another fine, long-time standard along 4th. Much like a diner with lots of comfort food, specials and big breakfasts. Prices are moderate, and burgers are very good. Worth dropping in to give it a try, and worth returning for reliable, hearty fare.

Third or fourth trip to Babalu's tonight---hadn't really thought much of it before, typically ordered the burgers or a chicken dish. Tonight, in the quest to eat healthier, we had the fish. GREAT CHOICE! Blackened grouper was tasty, cooked to perfection, a very small filet however. Had mashed potatoes on the side, which was a great choice. Boyfriend really took a chance with the REDFISH--but at $2.00 less than the grouper, and a filet nearly three times the size----it was a gamble that paid off wonderfully--best fish I've tasted in awhile. Prices reasonable, no hot water in the bathrooms which is always a sticking point for me. Excellent, fast service from a waitress who confessed she had just started. Place was packed with regulars. Will return again absolutely for the fish.

Odds are if you haven't been here yet, you probably shouldn't bother. This is a little dive (and I'm a big fan of dives), who has a pretty decent menu... but the food is mediocre. The point is, you probably already have a family owned diner that you're probably already getting this type of food at. It's not worth going out of your way to try. We purchased gift certificates from halfoffdepot.com and even paying half price we wouldn't return.

wings are amazing...... i got the wings with buffalo mi xed w blue cheese. yum. trying ribs and kid is getting a burger here in a few for dinner. hope they r better than the crappy service. (although polite, very inattentive) UPDATE...ribs, not that great. Not horrible, but sauce was sub par and meat tasted boiled.

I pulled in and there was no parking, but finally found a spot. Inside decor was sporty and clean. The restrooms need improvement, and there was a bad smell in the men's rooms. We ordered the chips and salsa appetizer. Chips were a little stale and salsa needed some seasonings, but it was okay. We ordered the blackened ribeye and fried grouper surf and turf, the buffalo style wrapper and the Italian sub. The fried grouper was delicious and fresh. I ordered the ribeye med rare and blackened, but it came out medium to med well. I opted not to send it back as it was juicy enough. It was very tasty and delicious. The Italian was delicious! Salami, pepperoni and genoa was plentiful and the seasoning and dressing were very nice on the sandwich. The italian dressing was a nice addition to the sandwich. The buffalo wrap was very runny and hard to keep together. I suggest emulsifying the buffalo sauce so it is thicker and sticks to the breaded and fried tenders. Both the steak fries on the steak and grouper dinner as well as the buffalo wrapper were good but were begging for some sort of seasoning. Overall, it was a satisfying meal. I heard the wings are good, and I saw some on the adjacent tables. They look huge! I will come back, now, but fix the restrooms!!!

I wouldn't recommend dining in as it has a very weird, dive atmosphere is is somewhat messy. However food is pretty darn good. Burgers are simple but good and wings are pretty tasty. Would have given 4 stars but went there once and everything was cold. Guess I caught them on an off day.

This place has pretty decent food, if you can actually get it, and get it while still warm that is! Of the three times I've tried this place, the first was an order placed online that resulted in me finally leaving Babalu 45 minutes later with ice cold fries. I spent 30 minutes in there watching the 2 servers run around like chickens with their heads cut off complaining that their delivery driver had called out and the lady that usually handles the to-go's was out making deliveries. They wanted to sit and wait for her to get back before checking me out (even though I had paid online). Next, I went on a random Thursday afternoon, and there were only a couple of tables there. The server was incredibly nice and welcome, and we got our delish burgers hot and fast. Understanding that when staff calls off in a restaurant, everyone is impacted, so I decided to give take out a chance again. So stupid of me. I admit, I'm easily fooled. When a restaurant allows you to order online and either pick up or have delivery, I assume they can handle to-go orders (hey, Chipotle rocks at it). I won't be making this mistake again. Even though I dialed in and placed my order, they still couldn't manage to get my lunch to me. I sat in that restaurant for 25 while the servers talked about no one had helped me. Finally, I asked one of the servers if there was somewhere else I should be going to pick up a to-go order, and she said no, I was fine, then asked if anyone had helped. I said, "no, I told one of the girls when I first walked in that I had a take out order, and haven't seen anyone since" she yelled into the kitchen to Mike that he had a take out order there, then told me he was on the phone but would be right there. Another 10 minutes go by and she's yelling at him again that I'm there. Meanwhile, I look at the clock at realize it had been 40 minutes since I first called in my order which was supposed to be ready in 10-15. Not relishing the though of cold fries and cold burger on a soggy bun, I left. I understand to-go orders are a pain in the arse, and that some places simple cannot handle take out orders. And that's fine. Just set the expectation, don't allow orders online, or deliver, and have your staff simply say "sorry, we don't offer take out", or if you are going to offer that service, make sure your staff isn't such a hot mess that they can't handle it.

Good food but the service is hit or miss. Recently remodeled so that was a plus but it still kept its dive appeal. I really enjoy the blackened African snook dinner...

Ate here again, and still not pleased. I think I just have to give up on this place. I ordered a bland burger, and tried their special recipe wings, hotsauce, garlic sauce mixed with blue cheese. AWFUL. REPULSIVE. If your a senior citizen with dead taste buds, this place is for you. I'm done with Babalu.

A great dive restaurant. The kind of place you could knock your beer over at and it wouldn't get cleaned up for hours. It's great fun. I had the fried cheesy broccoli nuggets as an app and then the fried fish and shrimp platter. It was damn tasty. If you are in the mood for good seafood and don't feel like putting a shirt on then this is the place for you.
